Jug Face

Is it just me or her eyes are abnormally large?

Synopsis

This horror story takes place in a country setting and involves a young girl who is about to get married.

Review

I...did not like this movie at all. I wish it was a lot better than what it turned out to be. There are some well known actors.. well one I recognized which is the mom of the lead character. There were a lot of gender issues that plagued her and she found out she was pregnant before she got married.. her mother wasn't too happy about that. She was subjected to vaginal examinations... all sorts of things. I didn't like the movie and I won't recommend it.

Review

"Haunted" definitely kept my attention. I'm a super horror fan, so if I thought it wasn't worth watching I would have turned it off within 5 minutes. What I really loved about this movie was the creepy narration of the wife and mom whose family was killed in the house. It starts off as a typical haunted house horror story, but it ends quite differently. I didn't like the ending very well, but I do understand the purpose of why it ended that way. It isn't the typical ending, that's for sure.

What I wanted the writer and director to do more of was to further develop the story of the girl who lived next door. It seems as if it is very random and I couldn't piece it together. I did like that the story took place in the middle of winter. Most horror stories don't. The atypical nature of it is what's so cool about the story, but it also made things not quite fit together sometimes. I don't want to say a lot because I don't want to give the story away. I would recommend the movie for others to watch.

Review: Devil

Devil

Released 2010
Runtime: 1hr 20mins

Source: Netflix

Synopsis

Detective Bowden must find 5 people who are locked in an elevator, and he has to do it fast because is the devil.

Review

I think this movie is really chilling. I would recommend this movie to anyone. I think it gives you a lot to think about and you have to get the whole idea. The acting and the camera angles are great. I don't want to say much about the storyline because I do want you to watch, but it's basically about not so good people trapped in an elevator... and the devil is there with them. They have short to do and say what they have to do to figure out why they are trapped in the elevator to begin with. Pretty cool movie.

Review: Tiny: A Story About Living Small

Tiny: A Story About Living Small

Released: 2013
Runtime: 61 minutes

Documentary

Source: Netflix

Supposedly, there's a small buzz going around about living in "tiny houses." The few people who live in tiny houses choose to do so because they are environmentally sensitive and/or they want to save money on mortgage and other bills that come along with owning a permanent home.

I thought this documentary was very interesting, but I'm wondering if there are many more people out there who want to live in tiny houses, but they don't have the means to build one or they don't have the desire because they haven't heard of such a thing existing. I wish they would have gotten more interviews with people who live in them.. maybe a wider scope.

I didn't like the filming too much. It seemed like an amateur did it, but I am pleased with the information and insight that was provided. It made me think about building my own tiny house! I may build one in the future.. when I'm older. Right now I don't see any use for it since it looks like it won't be comfortable for a family of four.

I Finally Finished The Twilight Series!

Oh, my gosh! I have finally finished my Twilight series movie collection! I went to Walmart this morning to find a cover for my Kindle and I glanced over to a huge case of dvds on sale for $5 each. Like always, I couldn't resist and for good reason this time! I walked away with Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse! I already bought Breaking Dawn I and II a few months ago (my favorite one) and I wanted to finish my collection.

I adore this series. It is so beautiful and elegantly made. I wish I could watch all 4 movies every day of my life, but that would get boring after a while, would it? However, I will watch the ones I bought today and watch Breaking Dawn for the..... I've seen it more than once. Let's put it that way. I'm excited! This is one series I hoped would never end.

Mystical Journey: Kumbh Mela

If you are familiar with Indian Religious practices, then you may know about the Kumbh Mela, the largest Relgious festival in the world happening every year in India. A well renowned actor, Dominic West goes on a pilgrimage to Northern India to partake in the festivities. I would call this a mini documentary since it is only 46 minutes long on and available Smithsonian channel. It gives you a glimpse into this wonderful festival and also some information about the religion and culture.

What's So Appealing about Orange Is The New Black?

I can pretty much get the hype behind some television shows I don't watch (not really), but I'm having trouble figuring out why Orange Is The New Black has such a following. Is it the acting? Is it because it's set inside of a jail? What is so appealing about this television show? I know that most of the actors chosen for the show are not well known, so I'm guessing the storyline is interesting?

I tried to watch the very first episode of the show and I did not get glued in like the rest of the universe. I'm sure something is there, but I can't find out what. My confusion is similar about shows like, Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men. I cannot get into those shows for anything! I sort of feel like I'm boring.. And I always don't like what everyone else is watching. Clue me in! Why are people so excited about this show?

"Revenge" (TV Show) : Guess Who's Back.

Guess Who's Back...

If you haven't watched all of season 3 of Revenge, then don't read this post! The past two seasons are available to watch on Netflix and season 3 is available on Hulu. I don't remember if every episode of season 3 is available to watch right now on Hulu, but it's a pretty popular show, so Hulu may have kept them up for viewing.

I want to get straight to the juicy part. In the finale... oh my goodness. It is beyond words. Guess who's back!! Emily's dad, David Clarke is back. You thought he was dead? Me, too!  What does this mean?? The fans of the show know that David Clarke supposedly died because of a plane explosion and here he is, alive and well and it seems like he's plotting his own Revenge.

I cannot wait for the Fall. I have no patience. It makes me so nervous with excitement to type this post. All I saw was a guy (David Clarke) dressed in dark clothing walking towards Conrad Grayson who concocted a ploy.. again.. to get out of jail, so he was dressed as a priest. Conrad, walking in the dark.. where? I don't know, turned around to see the van following him. David got out of the van. Conrad was super surprised and soon after that David stabbed Conrad. Wow. Just wow.

Now I wonder what is going to happen to Victoria Grayson (Why are all the evil women in TV shows named Victoria?). She cannot go throughout this show without anything else happening to her! She is so evil. I kinda... well I want her to die. I want her to go away. This season ended with her in the mental institution where Emily placed her while telling the doctor she was deranged.. most certainly after Emily hit Victoria in the head with the shovel and made it seem like she was digging up Amanda Clarke's grave. Of course Victoria was irate, therefore making Emily's plan even better executed. Not to mention, the lawyer that previously helped Victoria kill Aiden is on Emily's side now and provided the documents to keep Victoria in lockdown after Emily showed her footage of their conversation taking place when Emily was a young girl. Somehow Emily figured out the lawyer helped Victoria kill Aiden and tried to hide it, so of course Emily had to double use her!

As much as I love this show, I do find Charlotte Grayson very annoying. I wish she wasn't related to Emily. They are so different! Yes, it was bad that Emily kidnapped her and took her in for questioning... it's even worse that now she thinks Jack Porter, Emily's childhood friend, was part of it. Well, he was, but he tried to release her! And he did, but Charlotte thinks something totally different and she called the cops on him. I wanted to curse the television. Why, Charlotte. Why?

I just wanted to cover the high points in the finale. If I write about the whole episode, it would take me forever because I would never get done! What a great show. It is a TV series, but it is written as if it's a soap opera. I love it. I just may be depressed if this show ever ends. Depressed beyond words. Amazing show.

My Newest TV Show Obsession : Gang Related

What is there to say about "Gang Related" other than it's one of the best television shows I've ever watched. The first episode had me hooked! And not to mention the lead actor (Ramon Rodriguez) is gorgeous. (I'm a woman. Give me a break!)

This television series is about Ryan Lopez. A child that was taken in by a Latino gang after his father died. As a man, Ryan is a detective for the local police department that so happens to specialize in finding and arresting gangs who buy, sell, and distribute drugs (drug task force). The mind boggling thing about this show is, he's doing exactly what Javier Acosta (the head of the crime family) wants him to do. However, Ryan knows he's a cop and he has to follow their guidelines, as well as make sure the family that took him is is protected... while still knowing the difference between right and wrong even if it hurts the family.

This show is awesome. There is so much action that I can't keep my eyes off the television and the storyline very interesting. I recommend it for everyone to watch. I know there is a movie called "Gang Related" with one of the actors being Tupac, but I don't know if this series is based on the movie or it coincidentally shares the same name. I don't want to say anything I haven't researched! If you want to watch the show, past and current episodes are available on Hulu if you are a busy body like myself and you can also catch the episodes on FOX airing on Thursday nights, 9/8pm central.

Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County (HBO)

Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County
By Alexandra Pelosi
HBO
Released: 2013
60 minutes

In Orange County, CA--one of the wealthiest regions in America--children of the working poor are forced to live with their parents in motel rooms. From Alexandra Pelosi comes this film that follows several Southern California children stuck in this motel limbo and who's day-to-day lives are a numbing exercise in ever-diminishing expectations. (HBO)

Review

For some reason, I feel odd saying I loved the documentary, but I did. I feel odd because I watched these families go through hardship. The interviews and the intimate filming of the families for this documentary was great. What made this documentary hard to watch.. these families are living in a motel across from Disney Land and they cannot afford to take their children. How can Disney Land.. of all places.. the land where dreams come true for children all over the world be across from a motel harboring so much distress?

Furthermore, Orange County, the land of the wealthy. OC is known for reality shows such as the Real Housewives of Orange County and the teen reality show a few years ago. Who knew that adults and their children would be living at extreme poverty in the same town? Children were filmed digging in the dumpster for toys that were left behind by families who could not afford to live their any longer.

I don't want to give too much away about the film, but it is a good one.

Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film (HBO)

Picasso Baby: A Performance Arts Film
Starring Jay-Z
HBO
Released: 2013
Runtime: 11 minutes

Picasso Baby, rightly titled after one of Jay-Z's songs on his Magna Carta Holy Grail album released in 2013, is of Jay Z performing the song "Picasso Baby" in front of fans, artists, and actors at an art gallery in New York. His stage was set with a bench where people sat to view him perform on white flooring in the middle of the art gallery. The simplicity of the event was nice, but it was not intriguing visually to me. I thought the concept was great, but it was quite simple in nature. I thought it would have been more to his performance as in light changes, different images being displayed on the wall.. or even paintings to capture the feeling of an actual art gallery.

Jay-Z's vision for this film was to have himself and the famous individuals viewing him from the bench to be human art forms. I did not get that impression. I think it was a great idea, but it was poorly executed. Anyone can perform in an art gallery and call what they're doing art. In my opinion, it was missing something. It isn't a terrible film, but I believe Jay-Z should have let someone else produce it instead of himself. Maybe it would have been more pleasant to the eye and... believable. Everything would have meshed together. No one ever stands behind a rope in an art gallery. If the audience were free to move around and actually look at him like they were viewing a piece of art, I would have found it to make more sense than it did. All in all, great film for his fans.
